Burnby Hall Gardens

Burnby Hall no longer has a hall for the public to look around but it does have some very impressive and beautiful gardens, plus a recently opened museum. The gardens can be found in the centre of Pocklington in East Yorkshire.

What can you do at Burnby Hall Gardens?

The gardens have benefited from lottery funding and they have spent the funding well. There is plenty to occupy two hours or more. If you take a picnic or lunch in the cafe you could have a relatively long day out at Burnby.

The highlight of a visit is feeding the fish. Make sure you buy plenty of pots of fish food (expensive at £1.20 a pot) but we kept going back for more as it was so much fun. There must be thousands of young fish in the lake which all want feeding and will virtually clamber over each other with their mouths open waiting to be fed. Plus the lake they live in is beautiful especially when it is covered in lilies.

There is a small but very interesting museum with artefacts from the tours of the world that the previous owners once enjoyed. There is also a children’s playground with a big climbing area, two slides and plenty to swing on. On the walk around the lakes, you will find a secret garden, an aviary in a Victorian garden, a stunning rockery and a stumpery that looks like fairies and elves could live there.

There is a cafe on-site selling hot and cold food and drinks. You are welcome to picnic outside

Thousands of fish to feed, beautiful lily-covered lakes, a walk with different types of gardens, a museum and a playground. There are toilets on-site and a cafe.

What are the ticket prices?

Adults are £7.50, children £4.95 and children under 5 are free.
Prices are subject to change and/or discounts online.

There is free parking.

When are they open?

They are open for most of the year however they close just before Christmas and then re-open in early January. For up-to-date opening times and dates please visit their website.

Only assistance dogs are permitted.

Are they accessible?

Information on accessibility – The Gardens, Lilypad Café, museum and Gift Shop are all wheelchair and pushchair friendly, and we have disabled toilet facilities and a baby changing area.
