Castle Howard
One, well two, of the best things for families about Castle Howard, is their adventure playgrounds. They already had one excellent play area with lots to play on including climbing frames, slides, swings and more. Then recently they added Skelf Island. This is an adventure play area which you get to by crossing a bridge to an island (there’s even a rope bridge if you dare). Skelf Island has zip wires, lots to climb on, rope bridges and slides.
Things to do at Castle Howard review
As well as the play areas there is a mighty fine house to explore. If you don’t fancy the walk back up the hill to the house there’s usually a handy land train running. Which, although pulled by a tractor, is one of the best-looking land trains I’ve ever seen.
They have trails for kids around the house which is a great way of getting them to pay attention and not zoom through the house. Castle Howard is very Italian in design and there are some magnificent rooms and statues.
There are also some picturesque woods to walk around. Again these often have trails in them for kids. The grounds at Castle Howard are magnificent and very well-kept. The Atlas Fountain is jaw-dropping. Make sure you go to see it after 12 pm when the water has been turned on. You can also walk past some amazing statues to see the Temple of the Four Winds. The walled gardens are also lovely, make sure you stop by to see the fish.
