Our son has ‘visit a farm park’ on his summer bucket list so that is what we did. We had never been to Piglets Adventure Farm near York before and we were all impressed. There is so much to do there and there are some really lovely and different things to do as well. Below I will cover all the great things to see and do at Piglets Adventure Farm in my review.

The Beach at Piglets Adventure Farm

Piglets Adventure farm has brought the seaside to out-of-town York in North Yorkshire. They even have beach chalets to rent for £20 a day (plus a £10 deposit). You can pre-book a beach chalet online.

The beach area at Piglets is a good size. The beach huts line one edge and there’s a big grassed area on the other side. Next to the beach huts, they have a hut that sells selected snacks plus hot and cold drinks. At one end of the sand, there is a tall wooden platform for added sand play fun. At the other end, there is a series of rocks with a large pump at the top. The kids then have to pump the water either into buckets or down a stream that they can control with dams.

There were plenty of buckets and spades provided. If you don’t want to sit on the grass there are some benches with seats, some with umbrellas. They also have some deckchairs and a couple of hammocks. If you go on a hot day I recommend you take some sort of shade like an umbrella or beach tent which you can pitch on the grass. Don’t forget a change of clothes!

I think a little splash area maybe with tipping buckets or a splash pad would be a really fun addition to this area and a shower to wash the sand away at the end of the day.

They also have a reasonably large maize maze, water wars and pig racing twice a day.

All Year Round Fun at Piglets near York

There is free parking at Piglets. You arrive via their gift shop and their main cafe where they serve hot and cold sandwiches, kids’ meals and jacket potatoes. Also in the cafe, there is a small soft play area for babies and toddlers.

You then walk through a large area in front of you with different things to do all around. There are so many different things to do. We started at the Farmyard trail.

Farmyard Trail

The animals at Piglets are on a pathway off to the right. You cross a pond and then there is one way around the animal pens. You can’t feed the animals here but they are all incredibly friendly. My son was so happy that he could stroke so many of their animals as normally they just want his food/fingers. He was in his element stroking sheep, donkeys, Shetland ponies and Alpacas.

They have an inside area where it is really easy to get close to the animals. There are also feeding times and petting times throughout the day in the animal barn. The chickens are also free-range which was nice to see them wandering amongst us. There was a real treat waiting for us in the nursery – 1-day old Piglets!!!

The Fairy Trail

The Fairy Trail is a woodland walk on a loop pathway. The idea is to collect coloured dust along the way on your fingers for your fortune to be read at the end. There are 5 fairy houses and at each house, there’s somewhere for kids (and adults) to pop their finger in to collect the coloured dust. When you get to the end of the trail you have to match your coloured fingers to the boards and then find your fortune from the list. This is a cute and novel idea that my son enjoyed doing.

Tractor Ride and Play Barn

The only way to get to the Play Barn is on the tractor ride. This runs continuously throughout the day so you will never have to wait for more than a few minutes for the tractor.

The play barn isn’t anything like I imagined it to be. I was imagining soft play, instead, it was a converted barn with lots of bales of hay, slides and sand play. There is also a tent area with benches and a small cafe. There’s a slide that kids can sit on mats to go down although most don’t. There’s a daredevil drop slide into a ball pit, plus other slides, ride-ons, sandpits and a rope swinging area amongst bales of hay. It was all very different but my accident-prone child didn’t cope too well.

Outdoor Play Areas

There are a few outdoor play areas at Piglets Adventure Farm. They have two giant bouncy pillows, an obstacle course, play towers with slides and sandpits at the base, plus a build-and-play sandpit. My son also loved playing on the oversized pigs.

Crazy Farm Golf

They have a nice farm-themed crazy golf at Piglets Adventure Farm. There are 9 holes and you are handed a club and ball each. If there is no one waiting for your club you can go around again if you wish.

Go-Kart Track

They have a large figure of 8 Go-Kart track with a range of sizes for the karts. This was a particular favourite of my son and he was reluctant to leave the track for his lunch.

Barrel Train

The barrel train is pretty much as it sounds. Kids sit in a barrel each on wheels and a mini tractor pulls them around a bumpy and fun course.
