Charnwood Forest Alpacas review

They offer a range of animal experiences. We were booked in on the 60-minute alpaca walk with sparkling afternoon tea (£49 pp). Other experiences are a 90-minute walk with alpacas (£35 pp), a cria watch (baby alpaca) experience (£25 pp), alpaca care and ownership days (£65 pp +), adopt an alpaca (£20 or £65 adoption packages) and more.

They also now offer more experiences that aren’t just alpaca-related. They have mother and daughter horse riding sessions (£79 for 2 for 1 hour), lamb watch (see website) and Dorset poll sheep treks (£25 pp). Plus donkey grooming (£35 pp), donkey rides (£25 pp) and donkey walks (£35 pp). Please see their website for full details of each experience. They recommend that you arrive 30 minutes before your experience so we did just that and sat in their Chilli Bean Kitchen with some drinks for a while. As well as the cafe with seating inside and outside they also have on-site toilets. There is also a small shop.

Our alpaca walk started with an interesting pre-walk briefing. We learnt the best way to walk our alpacas, all about their personalities, their love for food and more. They are such characters and most of them love having their necks stroked. Please note that children under 10 can not walk their own alpaca but they are more than welcome to help walk your alpaca and there is no extra charge for this. No pushchairs are allowed on the walk.

We weren’t walking for a full 60 minutes as the trek also included a stop in the woods for photos with our alpacas. This was near the end of the walk.
