Disney On Ice Worlds of Enchantment | UK Tour 2018 Review

This was our third time going to a Disney On Ice UK Tour and I can safely say that each tour has been satisfyingly different. Yes, they still have Frozen every time but I think there would be a riot if they didn’t. Plus I am certainly not complaining. So what can you expect to see from Disney On Ice Presents Worlds of Enchantment?. We went to see their latest show at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, UK. Read on to find out all about it. Disney on Ice has a new UK tour – find out more over at Disney on Ice presents Dream Big Featuring Moana.

Disney On Ice Presents Worlds of Enchantment

We arrived so early it was crazy. I was excited though and we also had a VIP Meet and Greet to attend and there was no way we were missing it. We were all gathered in a room and then Mickey Mouse entered the room. He was wearing a pretty cool driving outfit I must say. Jamie gave him the biggest hug ever while I had the biggest smile ever on my face. Jamie was even treated to a Disney on Ice goodie bag. It was so special to experience more of that Disney magic that I miss so much from our holiday to Florida. Thank you Disney on Ice.

Sporting his Guppy Hat

We attended on a school night and the atmosphere was buzzing. We loved spotting the kids who had dressed up especially for the occasion. There was plenty of merchandising on offer and they even had Disney themed drinks and snacks.

How long does Disney On Ice Worlds of Enchantment last for?

Our show started promptly at 6:30 pm and we didn’t leave the arena until just after 88:30 pm.There was a brief time taken up with Fit to dance and also a 15 minute interval. You certainly get your money’s worth with regards to watching your favourite Disney characters on ice.

One Happy Boy

If you arrive on time they have a Fit to Dance session where everyone is encouraged to get up and Dance. I couldn’t persuade Jamie however many had a great time joining in. We were sat a few rows back on a tiered level and the view was very good. Each row is on a much different level to the next so you have no issues with people’s heads in the way.

Worlds of Enchantment

The show then starts as it always does with Mickey and Minnie Mouse skating onto the ice. They are then followed by Goofy and Donald Duck for some highly amusing entertainment. Jamie was a bit sad that Pluto wasn’t there. We’d love to see Pluto next year please Disney!

Toy Story 3

The first main performance is from Toy Story 3. If you aren’t familiar with the story (although who isn’t?) it’s based around a boy and his toys who can talk and move when people aren’t around. In this story the boy is grown up and going to college and his toys end up going to a playgroup. Not a good playgroup class either and it is run by the, not so nice, Lots-O-Huggin’ bear. Buzz goes to the dark side and Barbie has to trick Ken to steal the key to let her friends Woody, Slinky Dog, Mr & Mrs Potato head and more out of toy jail.

We especially loved the green toy soldiers and we were truly wowed by the choreography. One of them even came in via a parachute. Jamie was laughing out loud and ooing and aaing. I’d say it was our favourite part of the show.

Ken and Barbie perform a couple of solo ice dances together and the choreography and manoeuvres were excellent. I felt that the skating talents were a lot greater this year and more emphasis was put on the skating skills than the past two years. Buzz being set in Spanish mode by mistake was hilarious and very well done. In the end they all escape and everything is great again.

The Cast from Toy Story

This was a long segment of the show and perhaps the longest of all four. Perfect for any Toy Story fan, but if you’ve never seen it before it really doesn’t matter as the story was well told. I was especially impressed with how some of the ‘larger’ characters skated around in their outfits, especially Slinky as that involved two people skating in unison.

In Toy Jail

The Little Mermaid

Whenever we watch this at home the lip synch is always out but we still love it all the same and it’s a lovely performance to watch on the ice. This part of the show didn’t last as long as Toy Story but it was perfect in its length and easy to follow the story of Ariel, the evil octopus Ursula who trades her voice for some legs and the Prince who Ariel falls in love with. Plus there’s other favourite characters such as Sebastian the lobster and Flounder.

They have a lot of beautiful costumes in this part of the show and the bubbles that came down from above made for a magical performance. You can also expect to hear your favourite songs from the film such as ‘Under the sea’ and ‘Part of your world’.

After the Little Mermaid came the interval. Head out fast so the toilet line doesn’t get too long!

The Second Half

Mickey and Minnie returned in a very cute red car which subsequently broke down on them. They left the ice hoping to find a tow truck.

Queue Mater, Cars very own Tow truck entering the arena. He was later joined by Sally Carrera, Flo and more. Lightning McQueen entered with a few special effects that had Jamie jumping out of his seat. Mickey and Minnie’s car even sprung back to life to join in with them.

I spent most of my time trying to figure out how they moved so gracefully around the ice. The choreopgraphy of so many cars in one small space was astounding. Were there drivers inside or where they remote-controlled? Their eyes, mouths and bonnets even opened and shut. It was incredible and over far too soon. I would have loved to have seen more from them. But I can understand that their wheels were perhaps harming the ice a little, well that was my concern.

It wouldn’t be Disney on Ice without Frozen. This year they had changed the format again and the order of the songs was truer to the film this time I don’t know if it’s the distance we were sat at but I literally felt like I was looking at the real live Ana, Elsa and Kristoff. The casting was spot on. Still no Sven the reindeer though. Next tour please Disney.

Frozen – Arundel with a working fountain

The skating and the choreography was excellent and everyone in the audience was singing along and thoroughly enjoying this part of the show. There weren’t many people not filming ‘Let it go’. Frozen is one of our favourite Disney films and we have seen it at least 50 times.

In Summer

There is a story to Frozen in amongst all the really great songs. Elsa has a gift where she can turn things to ice or snow. Sadly she hurts her sister and has to be separated from her. Elsa later becomes queen but freezes Arundel and banishes herself to the north mountain. Olaf then appears on the scene and together with Ana and Kristoff they go to see her to plea with her to return. She hurts Ana again by accident and they all return to Arundel where the evil Hans plans to become King. All is well in the end as the only cure for Ana is an act of love which comes from her own sister Elsa.

Olaf the snowman is a really fun character and even gets his own song ‘In Summer’ in the film. Throughout a lot of the performance, there is snow falling which adds to the feel of the show. There’s even a few fireworks during Let it go.

After this the cast are joined by Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy for a final goodbye performance. We thoroughly loved the show and can’t wait for the next one.

We had taken cardigans as in the past we had been cold at Disney on Ice. It was 22oC outside on that day and we didn’t actually need to wear them. The ice wasn’t melting this time though so I was amazed that we were warm, all things considered.

Important Information

Disney on Ice presents Worlds of Enchantment is touring the UK until the 6th May 2018. Tickets are still available and can be booked via the Disney on Ice website. I don’t know if it varies from venue to venue but I wasn’t allowed to use my zoom lens on my camera. They also checked my bag before we entered the venue which was good to see. I was allowed in with Jamie’s water bottle.
