Welcome to our What’s on guide for the February half-term in the East Midlands. Please check with the attractions that they are open and their events are running before you leave home. This is our ultimate guide to the best events for kids, make sure you bookmark this page so that you can keep checking back. Another issue we often find at the February half-term is some places aren’t even open. Hopefully, this post will keep you busy in one of the coldest school holidays of the year. We still love to get out and about in the winter – nothing some gloves, a hat, scarf and wellie boots can’t fix.

Belvoir Castle – Leicestershire

When? Week starting 12th February. EventSnowdrops Walk About – Embark on a journey through the snowdrop walks at Belvoir Castle! Immerse yourself in the beauty of seasonal blooms as you wander through the enchanting winter gardens of this historical estate.

Bluebell Dairy – Derbyshire

When? 17th to 25th February. EventFarm Academy About – Our indoor farming activities in our Farm Academy are bound to bring out the inner Farmer in all the children! Collect stickers for every activity you complete and graduate as a 2024 Future Farmer! Activities include Carrot harvesting, sheep shearing, ponytail braiding, egg collecting and Highland cow grooming.

Bolsover Castle – Derbyshire

When? 17th to 25th February. EventHalf-term History Makers About – Join characters from the past for historical hijinks and hands-on shenanigans at Bolsover Castle this half-term. Step back in time to the 17th century during Britain’s Civil War. Be entertained by storytelling and dressing up, from the stealing of the Crown Jewels to England’s smallest man.

Chatsworth House – Derbyshire

When? 10th to 25th February. EventHalf-term in the farmyard About – With so many things to do for kids young and old, Chatsworth Farmyard and Adventure Playground make for a fun day out for all the family. In the farmyard, you’ll meet our friendly animals, from pigs and horses to our mischievous goats and guinea pigs. We’re also delighted to be home to a number of rare breeds including Suffolk Punch horses, Shire horses, Albion cattle, Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs (and piglets!), golden Guernsey goats and marsh daisy chickens. Take a free ride on our tractor-trailer through Stand Wood, everyone is welcome to join us!

Ecclesbourne Valley Railway – Derbyshire

When? 17th to 25th February. EventHalf-term Teddy Bear Days About – Enjoy a family steam train ride from Wirksworth this half term with our Teddy Bear Kids Go Free offer. Children can travel for free all day when they accompany any fare-paying adult or concession!

Gunby Hall and Gardens – Lincolnshire

When? 10th to 18th February. EventKitty Cat Trail About – This Half-Term come along and have fun and experience a range of activities on the Kitty Cat Trail. Solve the clues to find the Gunby cats’ favourite locations.

Hardwick Hall – Derbyshire

When? 10th to 18th February. EventFebruary Half-Term About – Get hands-on at Hardwick Hall and explore the delights of natural play. With activity stations in and around the Stableyard, a winter warmer pick-me-up is never too far away! The mud kitchen and bamboo chutes set are where young adventurers thrive. Watch as they sculpt, create, and revel in the joy of messy play. If a family trail is on the cards, become a budding bird expert and navigate through Lady Spencer’s wood armed with spotter sheets available from Visitor Reception.

Lincoln Castle – Lincolnshire

When? 10th to 18th February EventFebruary Half Term About

Unplug those digital devices and discover real adventures at Lincoln Castle this half term!

Enjoy the Castle grounds and discover the views from the Medieval Wall Walk. Explore the Victorian Prison and find out more about those that were once held here. Make sure you collect your activity sheet to see if you have what it takes to escape Lincoln Castle’s Prison!

Manor Farm Park and Woodlands – Leicestershire

When? 10th to 25thth February. EventLambs born in half term About – Join us daily from 10 am to 5 pm to see our newborn lambs. Meet our animals, enjoy indoor and outdoor play areas, explore the woodland and follow The World of Dinosaur Roar trail. Also included in the price of your ticket is a daily falconry show, weather permitting.

Mini Meadows Farm – Northamptonshire

Rufford Abbey – Nottinghamshire

Tattershall Farm Park – Lincolnshire

When? February Half-Term Event Lambing About – This time of year is all about LAMBING!  We can’t promise, but there is always the chance you may see a lamb being born on your visit.    We mostly leave the lambs with their mum, only intervening if we absolutely have to.  Check out Facebook for more details nearer the time.

Twycross Zoo – Leicestershire
