Can you believe we are already enjoying our first school holiday of the year? It came around so quickly that it now has me thinking forward to the school holidays yet to come. For a family that loves to travel and discover new attractions to visit, we always look forward to when the little one isn’t at school.
I spend a lot of time researching and planning what we are going to do. Yes, we have the luxury of us both working from home but that doesn’t always mean we can always have time off so when we do I like to be organised.

Do you have a favourite school holiday? We have and I’m going to share with you my reasons why.
Easter Break
Easter is our time for family traditions. For the past 3 years, we have enjoyed a short break with my Mum. For two years in a row, we headed to the lovely seaside town of Bournemouth. There is so much for families to do in Bournemouth and the surrounding areas. You can enjoy the pier, visit an aquarium and go on rides at an Alice in Wonderland-themed park. We love to ride the land trains and play on the wonderful sandy beach.
Last year we decided to start going abroad at Easter and chose Iceland as our first Easter holiday destination. It turned out to be one of the best holidays we’ve ever had and we’d love to return. We had so many ultimate experiences but top of the list was our visit to the Blue Lagoon.
For our holiday this Easter we are heading to the wonderful Capital of Denmark, Copenhagen. We are there for 5 nights and we have lots planned. I’m mostly looking forward to our visit to Tivoli Gardens. This is an amusement park and pleasure garden not far from our hotel.
Plus Easter break also involves something we are all big fans of – chocolate! Easter wouldn’t be Easter without at least two days out to local attractions to take part in the Easter egg trails. We loved visiting Castle Howard at Easter last year and finding the eggs lost by the Easter bunny. One year we managed four Easter trails during Easter break.
May Half Term Holiday
May holiday with kids is a time to start thinking about staying at a holiday park or a ‘different’ kind of stay to normal such as a glamping lodge. We are big fans of holiday parks and May is usually a good weather month for the UK. We’ve experienced some wonderful breaks in May where we have been blessed with plenty of wonderful outdoor weather.
We always choose a holiday park based on what there is to do there. It is a time when we choose not to venture off-site and just enjoy the chosen park for what it has there. We love a huge indoor pool with slides, a wave pool and a dedicated area for children. A holiday park is always a good place to try something new such as archery, watersports or pottery.
October half term
At October half term we are back to enjoying our favourite thing ever – chocolate! In October we love to stay close to home and enjoy as many Halloween trails as possible. October breaks come a close second to Christmas for our six-year-old. He looks forward to the October half term from the day it finishes.
As well as Halloween trails we always like to make a ‘fuss’ at Halloween. Last year we briefly went trick or treating but the real highlight for us was staying home and handing out chocolates to all the children who had dressed up.
Often the last weekend of October half term also includes local firework displays for Bonfire night, again another favourite of ours. October is also a lovely season, usually relatively dry, with plenty of fallen golden leaves to play in.
