I love Hull and I think it is terribly underrated. It has some of the grandest buildings of any city and it also boasts some wonderful – and free-entry museums. There’s plenty to do in Hull for families which I will cover below. We have split the list up into Free Things to Do in Hull and Other Things to Do in Hull with Kids. There is a range of activities for a fun family day out.

East Hull Community Farm

We are a unique community farm nestled away on the edge of a housing estate in East Hull, set on around 8 acres of land.
East Hull Community Farm has been a charity since 1992, before this the farm was part of the secondary school situated next door and was used for their rural studies courses. 
We offer immersive and rewarding day placements to adults who have learning difficulties and other disabilities

East Park – FREE

East Park is the biggest park in the City of Hull, located in the southern region of East Yorkshire. It is around 120 acres and has many facilities so it’s somewhere you could easily spend a good few hours.

Not all facilities are open all year round, some are just open in the summer months such as the fantastic new splash pad. There is a large main free car park next to the leisure centre There is a large adventure playground which is always open. This has a great choice of equipment for kids young and old, some of it is relatively new. 

Next to the playground, you will find the fishing/boating lake. During the summer we hired a swan pedalo and we brought our own food to feed the ducks and the geese. This is where you will find the Wickstead splash boat which is usually open in the summer. There is a toilet block next to the lake and also some musical instruments which you are welcome to play on.

There is an animal centre which you can visit for free. The public toilets are near here. It is an excellent choice for a free day out. Find Out More

Hands on History Museum

The Hands On History Museum, in the old Grammar School where William Wilberforce studied, houses the story of Hull and its people. Hands On History includes a fascinating glimpse into Victorian times, the Story of Hull and also features the Egyptian Gallery. This gallery is home to a genuine 2,600-year-old mummy and unique replicas of King Tutankhamun’s treasures. ONLY OPEN 12noon to 4 pm on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.

Hull and East Riding Museum – FREE

The Hull and East Riding Museum is located in the Old Town of Hull close to other free-to-visit museums. In the museum, you will enter a world where more than 200 million years of history are brought to life.

At the museum, you can see all parts of history from majestic mammoths to Saxon invaders. You can look forward to an experience that is unique, educational and fun. There is a walkthrough Iron Age village and you can enter a Roman bathhouse and look at some stunning mosaics. It is a great place for kids to learn more about history in a fun and exciting way.

Pearson Park Wildlife Garden – FREE

Pearson Park is located in the Sulcoates area a short drive from the centre of Hull, East Yorkshire. It is a Victorian park with a conservatory greenhouse plus a pond with ducks you can feed and fountains.

The park is also known as the People’s Park and it was first opened in 1861. It has been recently restored to its former glory with funding from the National Lottery. It was the first public park in Hull and it still retains many of its historic features. This includes the original perimeter carriage drive, the lake and seven Grade 2 listed structures. There is a fantastic bandstand where concerts are often performed.

Pickering Park – FREE

Pickering Park is located 3 miles outside of the city centre of Hull, East Yorkshire. It is a council-run park of around 26 acres. The park has ornamental and sensory gardens and facilities for families.

The park was first opened in 1911 and was commissioned by Christopher Pickering for his wife. He made his fortune as a merchant and a shipowner. The park still has its magnificent iron gates at the entrance.

There is a paddling pool that is usually open during the school summer holidays. There is also a playground with swings, a spinning bowl and an activity centre (climbing frame with slide). The park also has an outdoor gym and a permanent orienteering route.

Play in the Fountains – FREE

Outside the Hull Maritime Museum, they have some wonderful fountains which are always running. Kids will love splashing about in them, although you may want to take a change of clothes.

Seven Seas Fish Trail – FREE

The Seven Seas Fish Trail is a great way of exploring Hull with children. It is a 2-mile tour of the more popular and historic areas of Hull.

The Fish Trail is the most renowned of the trails around Hull. The trail features unique pieces of public art with 41 fish across the city centre. The trail takes in the picturesque Old Town and the thriving fruit market. It starts outside the City Hall Ticket office and finishes at the top of Whitefriargate. The fish are usually on the ground.

Streetlife Museum – FREE

The Streetlife Museum is a wonderful free museum perfect for families. Located in the Old Town in Hull, East Yorkshire with other free museums close by.

The museum takes you through 200 years of transport history with trains, trams, cars, carriages and more. There’s a lovely 1940s street and the whole museum gives you a sense that you’ve stepped back in time. There are six galleries to explore.

The 6 galleries include a look at the history of bicycles. In another, you can see some of the finest carriages including the realistic smell from the stables. There’s a surprise ride on a coach as well, make sure you don’t miss this as it was the highlight of our visit.

West Park – FREE

The playground is nautical-themed with play equipment and slides done as boats. There is an area for older kids too. The paddling pool has several ‘dancing fountains’ rather than being a pool. It’s quite a big park with lots of grassy areas to run and play on. There is also an aviary and a paddock containing some animals. There is also a skate park and bowling greens.

Wilberforce House Museum – FREE

Wilberforce House is the birthplace of William Wilberforce, a famous campaigner against the slave trade. Admission to Wilberforce House is free. The museum tells the story of the transatlantic slave trade and its abolition, as well as dealing with contemporary slavery. Galleries also offer a fascinating glimpse into West African culture.

Arctic Corsair is Currently Closed for Refurbishment. Check back for details once it has reopened. “The Arctic Corsair is a deep-sea trawler, built in 1960, that was converted to a museum ship in 1999. She is temporarily berthed at Alexandra Dock in Kingston upon Hull, England, pending the completion of a new permanent location in the city’s Museums Quarter.

Spurn Lightship – FREE

The Spurn Lightship guided ships safely through the treacherous River Humber for almost 50 years. Step aboard to discover how it was used as a navigational aid and find out what life was like on board. Please note the ship is currently closed as it is undergoing a major renovation.

Hull Maritime Museum – FREE

The museum is housed in the Victorian Dock Offices in Queen Victoria Square. These nautical-themed offices were designed by Christopher G Wray and originally opened in 1871. Now they display Hull’s maritime activities from the late 18th century to the present. Discover the whaler’s craft of Scrimshaw and see a full-sized whale skeleton, alongside superb ship models and stunning artefacts from Hull’s whaling, fishing and merchant trade. – Please note the museum is currently closed as it is undergoing a major renovation.

Big Fun – Soft Play

Big Fun in Hull, East Yorkshire is a large indoor play centre. They even run adult-only nights so they really are a play centre for all ages.

They have huge slides, rope walkways, tumble towers and bish bash bags. Plus rope swings, a slither chicane, trampolines and so much more. It’s certainly one of the biggest play centres in Yorkshire. The question is are you brave enough to take on their sheer drop slide? This is a great day out for all ages.

Cinemas – Cineworld, VUE and ODEON

Cineworld Hull – Located on the outskirts of the city centre of Hull, East Yorkshire, is the Cineworld Cinema. It is a 9-screen cinema including the largest 3D capable screen in Hull, there are restaurants and other leisure facilities nearby. Cineworld is one of the leading UK multiplex cinema chains. They show the latest movies for young and old. A trip to the cinema is the perfect place to relax.

Odeon Luxe Hull – It is located on the outskirts of the city centre in Kingston Retail Park. ODEON Cinema is one of the UK’s biggest cinema chains and they show the latest movies plus other classics from the past decades of films.

The cinema has 9 luxury screens showing stunning 2D and RealD 3D films with state-of-the-art technology. This cinema also has an iSense screen which features a bigger screen, bigger visuals and double the number of speakers. Plus it is an ODEON Luxe where every seat is fully reclining, with extra-wide seats that have ample legroom, pillowy soft heads and footrests.

VUE Hull – Vue Cinema Hull, East Yorkshire is located in Princes Quay in the city centre. It is part of the Vue Cinema chain which is one of the biggest multiplex cinema chains in the UK. They show the latest Blockbuster movies with something for young and old using state-of-the-art technology.

All of their films are shown using high-quality Sony 4k pictures with great Digital Dolby surround sound. This cinema has 10 movie screens with approximately 1,694 seats. You can see recent film releases in 2D and 3D. They also feature big-screen events such as sports, theatre, music and more.

Crazy Kids – Soft Play

Crazy Kids is located on the Tradewell Business Park in Hull, East Yorkshire. It is an indoor soft play centre with a fun-filled space for your kids to let off some steam.

The centre has a giant, three-story play frame and a separate play area for children under 4 years of age. There are soft-ball cannons, scramble nets and biff and bash toys. Plus swings, squeeze rollers, slides, chutes and ball pools.

Dinostar Museum

Dinostar is a museum just a short walk from The Deep in Hull, East Yorkshire. It features interactive dinosaur-related exhibits. It is described as a ‘children’s museum’. There are dinosaurs you can see, touch, hear and even smell.

Some of the best things at the museum include a T-Rex skull, plus bones you can touch. There is an interactive sandbox where you can build a volcano. You can even purchase genuine and replica fossils in their shop. Dinostar is Yorkshire’s only dedicated dinosaur attraction. It is located in the Fruit Market area of the city centre.

Gravity Trampoline Parks

Gravity Trampoline Park Hull, East Yorkshire is located in St Stephen’s Shopping Centre in the city centre. It’s a great family-friendly venue with something for everyone. They offer a number of sessions including Open Jump, 2-hour jump, Parent and toddler, SEN sessions and more.

At the venue, you can enjoy their great selection of trampolines, dodgeball court, battle beams, airbag, basketball and more. There is no better feeling whatever your move or style when you can hop, jump, bounce and dance on their extreme trampolines. On their Open Jump sessions, you can use the general park activity areas during a 60-minute session. These start every half an hour throughout the day. Some of the activities may have height restrictions.

Hollywood Bowl

Bowling is a great family-friendly activity which children will love to take part in. The centre in Hull has 26 up-to-date lanes and you can even hire one of their star-studded VIP lanes. Keep your strength up and dine in their American-themed diner or extend your stay and play in their amusement arcade.

Their bowling lanes all have access to ramps for the little ones. You can also choose to have the ramps up or down for each player. Adults are able to bowl in their own flat-soled shoes or their centres offer a wide range of shoes including velcro fastening ones for tiny feet. You can also enjoy family and kids’ parties at Hollywood Bowl.

Hull Ice Arena

The Hull Ice Arena is located off Hessle Road close to The Deep in Hull, East Yorkshire. It is a municipal venue that stages live music shows and it has an ice rink for skating and ice hockey. It is home to the region’s only Olympic size ice rink. They offer a comprehensive ice skating programme for the public.

They run a variety of ice skating sessions including regular skating for all, figure skating, learn to skate and ice hockey sessions. They are also home to a number of ice hockey clubs. If the kids want to go to their Junior Disco Skate session or you want to get the littlest kids on the ice at the pre-school skate session there is something for everyone.

Kinderland Playzone

The Kinderland Playzone is located on Hull’s Priory Walk West, East Yorkshire. It is one of Hull’s leading indoor play centres and party venues. They are for children aged from 0 to 10 years.

They pride themselves on a fun, interactive and safe environment for kids to play in. There is a 10,000-square-foot play structure. This includes a four-lane Astro-slide, a triple climbing wall and a mountain climbing zone with 7 walls. Plus a spooky shack, ball cannon area, biff bash and a large treehouse. They also have a large sports zone with football and basketball.

Little Monkeys Hull – Soft Play

Little Monkeys is located at Active+ close to One Stop Golf on the outskirts of the city centre of Hull, East Yorkshire. They are one of Hull’s largest and most popular indoor play centres.

They offer a spacious and clean environment with various activities to keep the children happy. There is plenty to play on including a three-way wavy slide, a crawl tube and a tiger slide for the daring kids.

They have a dedicated area for young children under the age of 5 with age-appropriate structures. All equipment is ROSPA approved and cleaned regularly.

Monkey Bizness Hull – Soft Play

Monkey Bizness Hull, East Yorkshire is a soft play centre located on the outskirts of the city centre. It has a Jungle theme and it is a fun environment for kids and their adults. The centre is suitable for children from 0 months up to the age of 12.

There are two tiers of soft play fun with games, machines, slides and more. They also have a separate baby and toddler area where kids can enjoy safe and stimulating indoor fun.

One Stop Golf

One Stop Golf is located on the outskirts of Hull, East Yorkshire. They are a family entertainment centre with an excellent golf driving range, themed crazy golf and also footgolf.

They are proud to be the first Toptracer Range in Yorkshire. On their golf driving range, you can compete against each other with games and challenges. You can also use the software to accurately track your shots.

Putt Club Crazy Golf

Located on the same site as the Hull TeamSport Go Karting circuit. This is an epic 9-hole motorsport-themed indoor crazy golf course.

It is a relatively new venue that has been specially designed and built with the putters in mind to make sure that everyone has the best experience possible. It’s a great venue for groups and especially for families. They can even host your child’s birthday party. Plus there’s a bar with food and drinks if you want to spend a bit longer there. You could even have a go at karting while you are there (at additional cost).

Rebound Trampoline Park

Rebound Trampoline Park is located on the outskirts of Hull in East Yorkshire. They are an indoor trampoline park and they offer a range of sessions including open jumps, toddler-friendly sessions, dodgeball, SEN sessions and more. They are owned and run by Monkey Bizness Play.

There are over 60 interconnected trampolines with jump walls. You can get your heart racing and feel inspired to jump with their festival-style music and lighting. With an open jump session, you can enjoy the freedom of their facilities.

Rock Up Indoor Wall Climbing

Located in St Stephen’s Shopping Centre near the centre of Hull in East Yorkshire is Rock Up Hull. It is a wall-climbing centre with an eye-catching range of climbing walls great for families. No experience is necessary and there are plenty of fun challenges to keep you all healthy and active. The walls are bright and colourful and there is something to suit all abilities with some walls being more challenging than others.

The centre has 26 climbing walls to try, there are exciting challenges available for all abilities. Some of their walls are over 8 metres. You can climb the Stairway to Heaven or try and set a new record on the speed climb. A climbing session lasts for around an hour. You will also need to allow additional time for getting your harness fitted plus you will have a safety briefing about how to use the equipment. (duration of this varies).

Superbowl UK

Superbowl UK Hull, East Yorkshire is located in the retail and leisure centre of Princes Quay in the city centre. It is a family-friendly venue with ten-pin bowling, Laser Quest and a kid’s soft play zone.

It’s worth checking their website for deals as you can often save money, especially on bowling. They have 12 state-of-the-art lanes including the latest scoring system plus you can book VIP bowling lanes. They have ramps, lane bumpers and lighter balls for younger kids.

Laser Quest is said to be like living a computer game it is zero contact, mess-less high tech fun using infrared equipment. For ages 7 years and over (minimum height 1.1m) it’s a great family-friendly adrenaline-pumping game. The game is played in a purpose-built arena. There is a large glow-in-the-dark maze which makes it hard to follow players. There are plenty of corners and other things to hide behind. Kids will love the futuristic-looking laser guns.

Teamsport Go-Karting

Race your family and friends on their multi-level 400-metre circuit in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire. TeamSport has a number of venues across the UK.

Their new state-of-the-art 400-metre track welcomes drivers of all levels, no experience needed. You can expect hair-raising bends, spine-tingling turns and challenging ramps. The adult karts can reach up to 40mph. The minimum age for driving is 8 years old. Their karts run on petrol not electric.

Drivers aged 8 to 12 get to use their specially-designed Cadet Karts. Every racer is given a full safety briefing before getting completely suited up.

The Secret Village – Anlaby

The Secret Village is an indoor role-play centre located in Anlaby, East Yorkshire. It is great for imaginative play and helps children to learn through play.

They are a purpose-built play centre with free-flow play in everyday settings. The Secret Village has 10 play areas that have been individually designed to create a fun and safe play environment. Their village play areas include a garage, bistro, vets and fire station. Plus a supermarket, cottage, theatre, construction site, post office and a village green. It is the ideal place for younger children to unleash their imaginations.

The Deep – Aquarium

The Deep is one of the UK’s largest aquariums. It is located in the Humber estuary in Hull, East Yorkshire. The Deep is very educational with lots to read and plenty of interactive exhibits.

The large coral reef tank has been recently restored and it is stunning with beautiful corals and fish swimming around. Next to here, you will find the rock pools. Here they have daily sessions where you can touch starfish and sea urchins. They also have a hands-on interactive area here.

One of The Deep’s star attractions is its Gentoo penguins. You can view them from different levels including in the water. Other exhibits include a wall of ice that you can touch, the fish and living beings of the twilight zone, cool seas with fish local to us, jellyfish tanks and more. It is a perfect day out for children of all ages.

The Lost City Adventure Golf

Located in St Stephens shopping centre in Hull, East Yorkshire is the Lost City Adventure golf. It has two themed indoor 18-hole courses where you can put your putting skills to the test.

The courses are great fun for all ages and you can test your skills against towering rockfaces and obstacles. The two courses are Cobra Canyon and Skull River. There are many dangers and challenges on the Cobra Canyon course. You will have to try to sneak past their Aligator without waking him and other creepy crawlies along the way. The real challenge comes with trying to get a hole in one to stop their stone-faced snake from getting too grumpy. There are boulders, an Inca temple and more.

Woodford Leisure Centre

The Woodford Leisure Centre is located next to East Park on Holderness Road. It is a short drive from the centre of Hull in East Yorkshire. The centre has seen a recent investment and a major refurbishment.

The building has a new frontage and there is a new family changing village. They also have new disabled changing places. There is a new teaching pool and a new six-lane swimming pool. There are steam and sauna facilities (at extra cost). The pool features a slide and a pirate ship.
