Things to do in Derby, Derbyshire review – Derby is where I grew up. I’ve not really returned since I left in 1995 but there is plenty to do in the City and just outside of it which I will cover below.

Paradise Island Adventure Golf

Average time of visit – 1-2 hours. Indoors
Paradise Island Adventure Golf is located at Intu Derby shopping centre, bringing a new experience to Derbyshire. The adventure golf leisure destination features two 18-hole mini-golf courses set amidst a tropical island paradise and will offer an exciting day out for families.

Hollywood Bowl Derby

Average time of visit – Up to 1-2 hours. Indoors

Rollerworld Derby

Located on the outskirts – Rollerworld Derby, is the best place for a family day out where children have fun while their parents relax or better yet why not join in the fun and burn some energy off at the same time? All our weekly sessions are family-friendly and there are no real restrictions on age. The smallest skate size we do is a junior 10 however we do have plenty of Fischer price style skates that children can wear with their own shoes and we have seen children as young as 2 years old with skates on their feet.

Murder Mystery Treasure Trail

As you follow the Trail route, can you solve the sneaky clues set on existing buildings, permanent features and monuments to eliminate the suspects to discover whodunit? This circular trail starts at the main cathedral entrance and takes you into the city via the Silk Mill Museum, Market Square, the Quad and the fish market as well as the library and the art museum. Discover some exciting hidden gems of Derby’s history whilst you have fun solving the clues!

Silk Mill Museum – Museum of Making

Average time of visit 1 hour. Indoors
The Silk Mill Museum – Celebrating the area’s rich history of innovation, the Museum of Making in the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site is a contemporary space telling Derby’s 300-year history of making to inspire new creativity on what is widely regarded as the site of the world’s first factory.

Megazone Derby

Average time of visit – 1 hour. Indoors
HELiOS Pro Laser-Tag at Megazone is a futuristic laser tag game played in a themed multi-level playing arena. Set in 4,000sq.ft. of labyrinth and maze, smoke swirls and eerie music pulsates, whilst super bright BIG green lasers pierce the ultra-violet barren landscape …. You are the hunted and you have only a laser gun to aid your survival.

HELiOS Pro Laser-Tag is a fun and safe environment for anyone aged six and upwards. Younger children may enjoy the game too, though we would advise parental accompaniment and that you seek advice from one of our knowledgeable staff before playing.

Derby Museum and Art Gallery

Average time of visit – 1-2 hours. Indoors
With longstanding and temporary exhibits, the Museum and Art Gallery boasts paintings and artefacts that are of both local and international significance. Visit our exquisite collection of Joseph Wright paintings. March through our Soldier’s Story exhibition to see the range of weaponry and objects, both military and personal. Pop on your adventure hat and explore historic artefacts from thousands of years ago, within our Archaeology Gallery.

Alter Rock Indoor Climbing

Average time of visit – 1-2 hours. Indoors
Alter Rock Indoor Climbing Centre is Derby’s leading centre for learning climbing skills. You can progress from complete beginner to Instructor with us and be challenged by over 600 square metres of graded climbing walls and bouldering problems.  And we have other fun activities to suit all ages and abilities such as swinging along the Air Walk aerial assault course or crawling through the Labyrinth Cave.

Pickfords House

Average time of visit – 1.5 hours. Indoors
Hidden amongst the gorgeous old buildings and cobbled pavement of Friar Gate sits Pickford’s House; the professional showcase and family home of Georgian architect Joseph Pickford. Now the museum illustrates aspects of domestic life from the 18th to the 20th centuries, Pickford’s House shows the contrast between the master and the servant, the grandeur of Georgian architecture and the changes that occurred in the house over its 250-year life.
