There is a wide range of self-catering accommodation options at Ribby Hall. They have 7 different cottages which sleep up to 4-6 people. Some of them are semi-detached and the larger ones are detached. You can also stay in a Pine Lodge or there is a choice of larger properties if you want to visit in a larger group. The site itself is the North’s only 5* holiday village.

We stayed in a Poppy Cottage during our weekend break there and it was most certainly 5* accommodation. The Poppy cottage sleeps up to 6 people and in general, is the most affordable of the cottages on site, but that does not compromise the property in any way. A stay at Ribby Hall also includes access to their facilities, most of which are of no extra cost.

Ribby Hall is located approx. 15-20 minutes drive east (inland) from Blackpool in Lancashire. It is a perfect base for exploring the local area.

Out the front

On arrival, there is a space for one car on a gravel drive. There is a paved walkway up to the cottage’s front door.

Bedrooms

All the rooms lead off one main corridor which is decorated with a cottage feel to it.

There are 2 pretty much identical twin rooms. In the twin rooms, you will find towels, bedding, a drawer unit, a wardrobe, a bedside table, a mirror and a TV. The curtains are not blackout ones however they were thick enough for our four-year-old to not be awake at 5 am.

In the larger double room, you will find bedding, towels, a large wardrobe, a drawer unit, bedside tables, a desk with chair, mirror, hairdryer, large TV and an en-suite with shower, toilet, sink and bin. We found all the beds to be comfy and each room was a good size, especially the double bedroom. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. It almost looked like it had been done up recently, I don’t know if it had or not but it was pretty immaculate throughout.

The Bathroom

The bathroom is located in between the two twin rooms and the double bedroom. There is a large bath with an overhead shower attachment. There is a toilet, bin, sink and a large mirror plus a few toiletries. Toilet roll was supplied in both the bathroom and en-suite.

The Large Reception Room

In the large reception room, you will find a fully equipped kitchen, dining room and lounge area. The Kitchen had enough facilities to be able to cook and eat there on a self-catering basis. The main facilities were a fridge with freezer, cooker with gas hob, bin, microwave, dishwasher (two dishwasher tablets were included), sink, toaster, kettle and crockery including cutlery, pans etc.

Dining Area and Lounge

The dining area is made up of a large table with six chairs. There were two large leather sofas in the lounge with a side table. The TV here is very large and wall mounted.

I liked how the kitchen and dining room had a wipeable floor yet there was still warmth and luxury in the lounge as it had a carpet.

I mentioned above that this property is semi-detached. We did have neighbours however we never heard them while we were indoors. There was a hedge separating our outdoor areas and although we could hear them when we were outside we couldn’t really see them.

There was a big patch of grass next to all the outdoor spaces and all the kids would go out and play together on there or in the bushes. The outdoor area for each property had a wooden table with attached seating for 6 people. This was on a small patio.

Outside Poppy Cottage

The cottage has gas central heating that can be controlled by a unit on the wall, in the hallway. Ours was a little temperamental and kept changing what we had set it to. All TV’s have Freeview and we had access to free wifi around the park and within our cottage. It wasn’t amazingly fast however it was perfectly adequate. Please note that not all cottages have a dishwasher. Ribby Hall offers a few dog-friendly cottages which you can book online.

My in-laws live near Blackpool so they came to visit us during our stay. They thought the site was very good and they were incredibly impressed by our accommodation. For us, we have stayed in 5* self-catering before elsewhere and it matched the quality of the accommodation and in some aspects exceeded it.
