Strutt's North Mill Museum
Strutt’s North Mill museum is located close to the centre of Belper in Derbyshire. Also known as Belper North Mill it was given UNESCO World Heritage status in 2001. There has been a mill on the site since 1786 and the current building was built in 1804.
What is there to do at Strutt’s North Mill Museum?
The site used ground-breaking technology for water-powered manufacturing which was copied across the globe. This is why the site has been UNESCO-listed. Younger children can enjoy a mouse hunt around the museum and help Millie the Mill Mouse find her lost baby mice. Make sure you ask at reception when you arrive. The hunt is suitable for children aged 2-8. (Children under 16 are free, but there is a small charge of £3.50 for the mouse hunt).
As well as being able to explore the mill and museum by yourselves you can also book optional guided tours. These run 4 times a day during opening times. You will see exhibitions, the spinning floor and a basement area. Plus the Lower Wheel Pit. Prebooking for the tours is advised.
