Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is in Wirksworth, Derbyshire. The railway station dates back to 1867 and today it is used for historic steam train rides plus a museum. The line itself is 9 miles long and the service operates between Wirksworth and Duffield and from Wirksworth to Ravenstor.

Things to do at Ecclesbourne Valley Railway

The 9-mile line makes it Derbyshire’s longest heritage railway. The railway hosts a number of special events, and they also offer afternoon teas on their Derbyshire Countryman service. Indulge yourself with freshly made sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, plus a selection of cake and pastries.

There is lots to do at Wirksworth station including a museum featuring an array of railway-related artefacts. There is a miniature railway which is fun for all the family which runs a short distance from Platform 1. They also have a model railway in a train coach with a selection of layouts. On special event days, you can take a short ride on their Quarry line. There is also a picnic area, a cafe toilets and a play area.

You can also stop at other stations and explore the local area or go for a meal in a countryside pub. There are extra facilities at Duffield station including gifts and refreshments, toilets, a picnic area and further parking. Ravenstor station is a good stop for accessing Black Rocks, the High Peak trail, Steeple Grange Light Railway and more.

Is there food and drink available?

There is a cafe at Wirksworth station and refreshments at Duffield station. You can also book an afternoon tea on one of their train services. You are welcome to bring a picnic.

What are the ticket prices?

Day rover return tickets cost £14.50 for an adult, children £7.50 and family tickets are available. Single tickets are available and special event tickets may cost more.

There is free parking at the two main stations although parking is limited at Duffield.
