Sheffield Manor Lodge

Sheffield Manor Lodge

Attraction Overview

Sheffield Manor Lodge known locally as Manor Castle is near the centre of Sheffield in South Yorkshire. It is a lodge that was originally built in 1516 in what was then a large deer park. The remnant of this estate is now known as Norfolk Park.

The remains of the lodge include parts of the kitchens, a long gallery and the Turret house. Mary, Queen of Scots was held prisoner by the 6th Earl of Shrewsbury at both Sheffield Manor Lodge and Sheffield Castle. Her ghost is said to haunt the tower.

The visitor attraction today includes the Turret house, Tudor grounds, a Discovery Centre and a cafe. The Tudor house and turret are open on Sundays only from April until September. During most school holidays there are trails and crafts.
