Strawberry Field Liverpool

Strawberry Field Liverpool

“Let me take you down, ‘Cause I’m going to Strawberry Fields”. We all know the lyrics from the famous Beatles song. Did you know that the inspiration for this song came from the site of a former Salvation Army children’s home which has now opened as a tourist attraction? The home is no longer there but the iconic red gates and a new exhibition centre are.

Things to do at Strawberry Field Liverpool

The site is located close to John Lennon’s childhood house and a short drive from the centre of Liverpool in Merseyside. The centre is home now to an interactive experience that tells the stories of the children’s home, John Lennon’s childhood and the writing and recording of the famous song ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’.

You start the visit in the 1860s where it began as a Victorian house and was then transformed into a safe place for some of Liverpool’s vulnerable youth. There is archive footage, photos and more. There is a media guide tour that then continues into the gardens where John Lennon played.

Most visitors to the centre spend around 1.5 hours there on their visit. The media guides are available in a number of languages. The hallowed gardens where John Lennon once played are now there for you to enjoy and explore.
