Almond Valley Heritage Centre
The Almond Valley Heritage Centre is located close to Livingston in Scotland. It is set on a peaceful riverside site with friendly farm animals, a working watermill and interactive displays.
What is there to do at Almond Valley Heritage Centre?
The fields, woods and green spaces expand to either side of the river Almond for nearly a mile. Almond Valley is the only ‘Rare Breed Survival Trust-accredited farm park in the whole of central Scotland. They are home to all sorts of native rare breeds with the giant Clydesdale horse, mini donkeys, sheep, pigs and more.
They are also home to some alpacas that you can book walking experiences with. Plus there are lots of baby animals, to see in the springtime. There are often daily activities on the farm involving their animals. Make sure you have some 20ps and 50ps with you so that you can feed their waterfowl and chickens.
There are plenty of play areas including a giant pillow, trampolines and go-karts through the woods. There are pedal tractors for the younger visitors and lots of play features throughout the site which you can swing, climb, play and hide on. The working watermill and machinery shed provide an insight into West Lothian’s rural past whilst the museum tells the fascinating story of Scotland’s famous shale oil industry.
Indoors there is a special soft play area for children 3 to 8 years. Plus there is a soft corner for younger children. Play sessions cost £1 for 30 minutes. The Olishale Adventure Zone is for older children aged 5 plus. They can clamber and explore the gloomy corners of an old shale oil refinery. Plus there is a bones and stones tent where you can turn your hand to archaeology and unearth skeletons and hidden secrets beneath the sand.
There is also a train on-site that takes you past some of their animals. A return journey takes over 20 minutes. Trains run at weekends from Easter until September and daily during some holiday periods. A return journey costs £1 per person. They also have tractor-trailer rides, you are pulled by a vintage tractor on a simple circuit through the fields. These operate at weekends throughout the year, daily through the summer holidays and cost just 50p per person.

There is a cafe serving hot and cold drinks and food. You are welcome to bring a picnic.

An adult ticket costs £9.50, children 3-15 £7.50. Under 3s are free.
