Colchester Zoo
There is just so much to do and so many animals to see at Colchester Zoo in Essex. Whether you are visiting as a family with young children or simply adults with a love of animals, there really is something for everything. I would strongly advise leaving yourself plenty of time to get around the whole zoo as there are so many animals, you will just love to meet!
Things to see at Colchester Zoo
The creatures range from amazing tiny insects all the way to the large and mighty in the ‘Africa’ area. This zone is towards the far end of the zoo but you will be glad you reached it. Hippos, zebras and lions prowl free, in their terrain with fantastic vantage points all around.
If you prefer your animals a little cuter, the meerkats and penguins are certain to tug at your heartstrings. Colchester Zoo also offers a unique underwater tunnel from which you can watch the penguins and follow them as they jump into the water and out to other parts of their enclosure. The monkey and baboon zone is unmissable too, you will always find them being a little cheeky and up to no good!
There is plenty on offer for the kid. With both soft play and outdoor frames to enjoy as well as particular enclosures such as the parakeets, where the children can join in with feeding the animals. You can even get your face painted to match your favourite animal.

Is there food and drink available?
There are a large number of restaurants and snack bars scattered around the zoo though they can be a little pricey so you may prefer to take your own picnic and take advantage of one of the many outdoor eating areas throughout the zoo where you can relax whilst watching the animals, at play.
What are the main things to do?
Zoo with lots of animals to see including elephants, giraffes, monkeys, meerkats, hippos, lions and more. Underwater penguin tunnel, indoor and outdoor play areas plus parakeets you can feed. There are toilets and a choice of places to eat.
What are the ticket prices?
Tickets range from £15 to just over £21 for an adult and around £15 for a child aged 3-15. Under 3’s are free and other pricing options are available.
