It’s easy to forget how lucky we are, living in the South West with a seemingly endless coastline to discover. We ventured a bit further down the coast to Trevornick, just 5 miles from Cornwall’s surfing capital of Newquay. Trevornick is a family run campsite next to Holywell Bay, a large sandy National Trust beach and a prime spot for surfing

Arriving at the site and checking into the smart Reception building, I was welcomed and given an information pack which included a map of the site, amenities opening times list, a site guide and timetable of activities for the week.

Accommodation and Tourers at Trevornick

We were escorted to our Eurotent by Tom on his moped. My first impression while driving through was great. The site grounds were clean, tidy and well-maintained, overlooking the golf course on the coastal side. We were in Tent 3, in the centre of the Corn Field area of 36 Eurotents.

The tents were in private hedged bays of four tents, although not all of the bays were pitched. I suspect that during the height of the summer holidays, all will be in full use. Each tent has space for a car and a picnic bench for easy outdoor dining. Tom pointed out the amenities and left us to unpack.

The Eurotent was ready assembled and fully equipped: all we needed was bedding, personal belongings and food. (Read my second review for everything you need to know if you are booking a holiday in a Eurotent.)

Trevornick is a large site divided into seven fields catering for all kinds of campers. Whether you have your own tent or caravan or wish to book an on-site static caravan or Eurotent, you’ll find it here. The site is dog-friendly, but there are sections of dog-free pitches too.

You’ll find toilet and shower blocks close by wherever you are situated. The toilet blocks contained shower cubicles at one end and a separate area for washing up. There were two within the same short distance of our tent and both were roomy, spotlessly clean and had music radio playing through the block. Family shower rooms are available upon request.

Eating at Trevornick – Restaurants etc.

There are a number of options for family dining if barbecues aren’t your thing. The Farm Shop is well stocked, or you could try the Fodders Takeaway to dine in your tent. The Diner and Woody’s, situated at by the Fun Park serve meals, but check the opening times sheet.

We ate at Woody’s surf-themed restaurant for our evening meal. The food was good-sized portions with starters and desserts on offer. It was quiet but might be much busier in the height of summer.

The next morning we chose to eat at Fodders restaurant which offers a range of breakfasts. It was the first day of opening the restaurant for the season. We chose a cooked breakfast which set us up for the day. Afterwards, our son played in the park and the indoor play area right next to the restaurant.

Inside the Farm Club

Our evening was spent in the Farm Club kicking off with Jen who entertained the kids and snuck in an impromptu quiz upon request. We won, but only gained a certificate! We weren’t so lucky in the Bingo, however. Paul Zee a comedy magician topped off the evening and we walked back to our tent with a glorious sunset over the sea.

Activities at Trevornick

At Trevornick there was so much to do, we didn’t leave the site. Although we didn’t have time for Pitch and Putt on the Golf Course. Trevornick has a schedule of kids’ activities throughout the summer around the site – see the timetable here of what’s on during your stay.

If you’re after a more sedate holiday, you could try the fishing lakes or walking the dunes on one of several coastal walks. In the centre of the site is a full-size open-air swimming pool with a lifeguard on duty, lots of sun loungers and a spa treatment room. Other services include a laundrette, dog daycare, a hire shop for bicycles, surfboards and more.

Trevornick really exceeded our expectations. It was super clean and tidy with plenty of friendly staff working around the park (easy to spot in their bright blue shirts!). The buildings were well-maintained, airy and modern.

The grounds were well looked after with lots of plants and neat trimmed hedges. The grass was even mown around our tent during our stay. We had such a great time and were genuinely sad to leave. We are already planning our next camping trip there!

Trevornick is open from Easter to October but check the website before booking.
