Marsden Beach
Marsden Beach is located on the stunning coast of Marsden Bay in South Shields. It is an absolute gem waiting to be explored. You can park at the top of the cliffs and then take a lift down to the beach or a set of (long) stairs. Imagine golden sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs, and the cold North Sea – plus a pub in a cave on the beach, Marsden Bay has it all.
One of the coolest things about Marsden Bay is its famous Marsden Rock. This towering limestone stack rises majestically from the sea like a real-life fortress. When the tide is right you can explore inside it, perfect for rock-pooling and you might even spot some adorable puffins nesting nearby if you’re lucky!
The other great thing about Marsden Beach is its pub, Marsden Grotto. It’s a unique pub nestled within the cliffs, accessible by a lift or by a set of stairs carved into the rock. You can enjoy a refreshing pint while marvelling at the rugged beauty of the coastline and they have a lot of seafood and pub food options. They also have a terrace right off the sand that views the sea for al-fresco eating and drinking. Last time we ate in the cave part of the pub – though it did smell like a cave too!
And don’t forget to take a leisurely stroll along the Marsden Bay Coastal Walk. With panoramic views that’ll make your jaw drop, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard.
