WWT Washington is huge and the kind of place you could spend 1 hour or the full day. There are shorter walks around the grounds for little legs or longer walks around the whole site if you have a little longer.
What is there to do at WWT Washington Wetland Centre?
There is lots to do at WWT Washington Wetland Centre. Something you cannot miss is the Otter talks – they are such interesting animals, and really engaging to watch too. Otter talks are included with admission and take place a couple of times each day – ask on arrival for the timings.
There are lots of birds to spot at WWT Washington, some are a little exotic (hello Flamingos) whereas others are wild birds which you can spot from the various bird hides dotted across the grounds. There are lots of information signs and books in the hides and you may learn a thing or two.
As well as wildlife, there is a fantastic adventure playground at WWT Washington which is spread out into various sections. It is a play area which is suited to all ages and a place where my children could spend hours. If the weather isn’t great, there is an indoor exhibition centre which is home to a few interactive games and hosts craft sessions too.
Many people choose to buy an annual pass and return throughout the year with the changing seasons / various events, (puddle jumping in February Half Term is always popular). One thing which really stands out about WWT Washington Wetland Centre is its exclusivity policy. Despite having no visible disabilities, we were briefed on accessibility around key areas of the site on arrival without having to ask which I thought was brilliant.

Is there food and drink available?
There is a cafe on-site and if it is a nice day you can sit outside on the cafe balcony overlooking the gorgeous scenery. If you prefer, you can bring a picnic.
What are the main things to do?
A good variety of walks, otter talks, bird spotting, an adventure playground and an indoor exhibition centre with games and crafts. There are toilets, a shop and a cafe.
What are the ticket prices?
You can save money on your tickets by booking online in advance. An adult ticket online is just under £9 without gift aid and £4.99 for a child aged 4-16. Under 4’s are free.
