East Kent Railway

East Kent Railway

East Kent Railway is a heritage railway located in Sheperdswell, Kent. The line was constructed between 1911 and 1917 and was once a thriving industrial line serving the Kent coalfields. The four-mile round trip takes you on a scenic journey between the pretty villages of Sheperdswell and Eythorne. There is a rolling countryside with steep chalk-lined cutting and the fascinating Golgotha tunnel. The Walmer Model Railway Club is also at the railway and they have an exciting model display in an LMS coach.

As well as the railway and the model railway there is a woodland where you can enjoy a peaceful woodland walk. They also have a miniature railway which you can enjoy a ride on. Unless there are adverse weather conditions the miniature railway is open on all running days.

There is also a second miniature railway at the Knee Woodland. This has a large loop around the bottom part of the woods. It hosts its own special events throughout the year and they operate a range of locomotives on the line. This railway runs at all special events listed on the timetable, weather permitting. The railway runs a great range of annual events with many family-friendly things to do including Santa and Halloween trains.
