Museum Overview
The Ure Museum of Greek Archaeology is located at the University of Reading in Reading, Berkshire. It is a museum of ancient Mediterranean archaeology that is primarily that of ancient Greek civilisation but includes Egyptian, Etruscan and Roman items.
Situated on the university’s Whiteknights Campus it is open to the public and entry is free. Exhibits include prehistoric pottery and a collection of Egyptian antiquities that includes musical instruments, bronze and copper artefacts, jewellery, a funeral boat and a mummified cat’s head.
The museum was created in 1922 and the collections have grown through the generosity of various donors to what is now recognised as the fourth-largest collection of Greek ceramics in Britain.
