Lancaster Maritime Museum is located by the river in Lancaster, Lancashire. It is a museum of the area’s 18th-century shipbuilding and seafaring past that is set in two restored warehouse buildings.
Inside you will discover all about Lancaster and Morecambe’s relationship with the ocean. Plus the challenging lives of those living and working in the places between land and sea and how our inland waterways have shaped our lives, work and leisure.
You can experience the treacherous crossing of the sands, sit in a packet boat on the Lancaster Canal and hear all about life in Morecambe Bay. They also uncover the city’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade. The museum uses sound, smells, reconstructions and audiovisuals to bring the past back to life.
