Cudmore Grove Country Park
Cudmore Grove Country Park is located in East Mersea near Colchester, Essex. It is a nature reserve on Mersea Island that covers over 102 acres.
Things to do at Cudmore Grove Country Park
The reserve is nestled on the coast where the Colne Estuary meets the Blackwater Estuary. It enjoys impressive views, sandy beaches, rolling grasslands and meadows buzzing with wildlife. You can enjoy coastal walks and there is a themed play area for the kids. Several miles of walking paths circle and cross the site including a Sea Wall walk. There are designated routes for cyclists.
It’s a great place to paddle and picnic, beach comb and birdwatch. The park is designated a Special Site of Scientific Interest. There are historic features to be found including WWII pillboxes, the remains of a blockhouse fort and a cliff that has produced 300,000-year-old fossils (please keep your distance from the eroding cliffs). Please also note that swimming in the sea here is prohibited.
There is a foot ferry between Brightlingsea, Point Clear and East Mersea that provides easy access to visitors from April until the end of October. The crossing takes around 9 minutes and the boat’s ramp can be lowered for wheelchair users and cyclists.
