Volks Electric Railway
Volks Electric Railway is a narrow gauge heritage railway that runs the length of the seafront in the English seaside town of Brighton, Sussex. It is a fascinating piece of living history and it is the oldest working electric railway in the world. There is no need to book, you just turn up and ride.
They have been transporting passengers since 1883. You can board their preserved cars and be transported back to the Victorian era of innovation and ingenuity. The track is a mile long and enjoys scenic coastal views. Trains run between the aquarium station near the Brighton Palace Pier and Black Rock Station near the marina.
There is a newly-built visitor centre where you can find out information about the history of the railway and the man Magnus Volk who invented it. You can also take the train to Halfway Station to see the workshop.
