Museum Overview
Towcester Museum is located in the centre of Towcester, Northamptonshire. It is a modern museum that is also home to a visitor centre for the area.
Inside there are fascinating artefacts, family-friendly activities, life-like dioramas, detailed models and more. They have a good variety of exhibits including a dressing-up area for the kids. There are three interactive exhibitions which take you on a journey through time spanning 5,000 years of Towcester’s history.
You will start off on a timeline through history from the Stone Age to the fall of the Roman Empire. In another exhibition, you will continue the journey from the Anglo-Saxon period through to the Great Fire of Towcester in 1676. In the final exhibition, you will learn more about the Georgian, Victorian and Twentieth century periods of the town’s history.
Other activities for children include e-learning and interactive games plus worksheets, puzzles and quizzes. There is also a family rat guide around the museum.
