Abington Park

Abington Park is Northampton’s oldest and most popular park. It contains large open spaces and a museum The Park café, a bandstand, 6 all-weather tennis courts at £6 per hour and a garden for the blind and lakes. 

What is there to do at Abington Park?

In the summer live music is played on Sunday and the museum hosts many events, throughout the year. Recently there has been a Vegan fair, Vintage fair and half-term activities scheduled. Abington Park is also host to the Race for Life and National Summer Play Day.

I love Abington Park but find the play equipment is best suited to primary and pre-schoolers.  The park could invest in some larger pieces of equipment such as zip wire and larger climbing apparatus for older children. The park is an excellent focal point for the town with running groups, boot camps and football teams all regularly meeting. It is also hugely popular with dog walkers and the lakes can be fished (make sure you obtain a permit). 

The Park café is open from 9 am to 5 pm daily and serves hot & cold food. It has a large patio area perfect for a cup of tea whilst the kids kick a football around or explore the bandstand. The museum was recently renovated and is a lovely old grade 1 listed building and usual open hours are 12 to 4 pm and admission is free. There is no parking but there is always room on one of the many streets that encompass the park such as Abington Park Crescent, Christchurch Road or Ardington Road.
