Walker Art Gallery

The Walker Art Gallery is located in the centre of Liverpool, Merseyside and is near the free-to-visit, World Museum. It is the National Gallery of the North and has been open for 130 years. The gallery houses Liverpool’s most outstanding art collection.

Their collection of paintings includes works from Rossetti to Hockney and there is a diverse range of art on display. There are contemporary pieces and works as far back as the 13th century. The Pre-Raphaelite collection is one of the best in the world.

As well as the large collection of paintings you can also see sculpture, decorative art and Western European costume. They are home to some outstanding works of art by Rubens, Rembrandt, Poussin and Gainsborough. With modern pieces by Lucien Freud, Bridget Riley and Henry Moore.

For young children, there is Big Art for Little Artists. This is a dedicated children’s gallery for children aged 0-5. Sessions run on a drop-in basis 6 days a week. To help children of all ages engage with the art of the gallery they also have free, Art Trails which they can take around with them.
