Mersey Tunnel Tours

Mersey Tunnel Tours

Mersey Tunnel Tours gives you a unique behind-the-scenes look at the famous Queensway Mersey Tunnel in George’s Dockway, Liverpool. The tunnel opened in 1934 and children from the age of 10 and adults can join one of their tours.

After donning a high-vis vest and a hard hat your tour of the tunnels will begin. You will learn about the construction of the tunnel and visit the original control room. Visitors will see the giant ventilation fans in action and go down to watch the traffic in the tunnel, deep below the streets of the city. Plus you will find out which Holywood movies the tunnels featured in.

Please note that their tours are limited to 20 people per tour so that their customers are ensured the best experience possible with one of their guides. There are also a lot of steep steps to walk up and down so the tour is not suitable for people with mobility, breathing and sight difficulties. Booking in advance is highly recommended, especially for their Saturday tours which can be booked up at least 8 weeks in advance.
