Museum Overview

The Lyme Regis Museum is located in the centre of Lyme Regis in Dorset. The museum has been open for over 100 years now and they also run interesting fossil walks on the nearby beach.

In the museum, you will discover 200 million years of history. The building was built on the site of Mary Anning’s house who was a fossil hunter many years ago. There are some stunning sea views from the Mary Anning wing. The museum has seen some major investments of money including the new wing in 2017.

The museum is packed full of interesting and thought-provoking displays. It is a relatively small museum with lots of good stories to tell. There are spectacular fossil collections, maritime and domestic objects, paintings, prints, photographs and more.

Their fossil walks run throughout most of the year. Expert guides will take you fossil hunting on Lyme’s East Beach and Black Ven, You will learn more about the fossil hunter, Mary Anning, the geology of the Jurassic Coast and discover your own fossils to take home with you.
