Kirroughtree Visitor Centre
Kirroughtree Visitor Centre can be found near Newton Stewart, Dumfries and Galloway. It is an area brimming with wildlife and the centre has a bike shop where you can hire one of their many bikes.
There are a few trails around the site including a bird watch trail, an anniversary cairn trail, a Little Bruntis trail with the workings from historic tin mines and the chance to spot roe deer and red squirrels. Please a longer Larg Hill trail and mountain biking trails. It is one of the world-class 7stanes mountain bike venues and has a variety of green, blue and red-graded trails. Plus an extreme downhill section and a skills area.
The play park is a great place for kids to burn off their energy. You can also try out their orienteering trail. In the visitor centre, you can find out more about the park’s status as a Dark Sky Park, its trees, waterways and wildlife.
If mountain biking isn’t your thing the National Cycle Route 7 winds through the forest park. It links with two other visitor centres and while you might not want to tackle the whole 200 miles you will be able to get a taste of the experience on this scenic route.
