Museum Overview
The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum is located in Alloway, near Ayr, Ayrshire. Here you can discover the man and his genius whose poetry and songs are loved the world over. You can visit the humble three-room cottage where Robert Burns was born and where he spent the first years of his life. In the museum, there are more than 5,000 Burns artefacts including some handwritten manuscripts.
The museum is a self-guided space with interactive games and quizzes for all ages. You can play some tunes on the Burns jukebox and outside there is a Burns-themed play area with a mini Burns cottage, zip wire, Witche’s cauldron roundabout and an Auld Kirk climbing wall.
Robert Burns is Scotland’s National Bird and the museum offers a truly unique look at him and his life. Outside of the museum, you can follow in Tam o Shanter’s footsteps across the cobblestone bridge that spans the River Doon.
There are gardens and a Burns monument which you can climb the staircase and enjoy spectacular views of Alloway and the surrounding landscape. An attractive pedestrian pathway connects Burns cottage with the main museum site. Along the way, you can spot some creative ironwork signage and other Burns-related artworks.

Adults £11.50, children £8.50, family tickets are available. Free for members of the National Trust for Scotland.

Is there parking?
Parking is available at the museum and Burns Cottage. There is a charge for non-members.
When are they open?
They are open almost all year round, the museum and cottage is closed on the 25th and 26th of December and the 1st and 2nd of January. For up-to-date opening times and dates please visit their website.

Dogs are welcome outdoors. Only assistance dogs are permitted indoors.
