Aberystwyth North Beach
Aberystwyth North Beach is the first one that tourists see if they walk in a straight line from the train station. It is here that the famous Aberystwyth bandstand is and here that most of the seafront ends up on the promenade after a winter storm. Type of beach: Grey Sand and Shingle – the majority of the north beach is dark shingle with some patches of sand in places.
Attractions/ Entertainment: Constitution Hill can be found at the bottom of North Beach, and you can take the funicular railway to the top to see the view of the bay. There is a café at the top with a camera obscura giving a further view of the bay. Consti as known by locals also has lots of other attractions including, soft play and crazy golf.
In the summer months, you will find fair attractions along the promenade and close to the bandstand where you can also get free music and entertainment. Just at the start of North Beach is the famous Aberystwyth pier and you can venture on here to drink, play pool or while away the time in the amusement arcade.
Parking: There is parking available along the promenade but in the summer months you need to get there quickly to nab a great spot. Plus, there are restrictions in some places e.g., on-street parking street side 1 hr restrictions, Monday – Friday 9 am-6 pm, seaside street parking, 4 hr restrictions Monday – Friday 9 am-6 pm (overnight parking is allowed on both).
For pay and display car parks: St Michael’s Church (Kings Street, very close to the castle) – no overnight parking allowed, pay and display, Large Pay and Display Car Park off Park Avenue. On-street parking is available throughout Aberystwyth for non-permit holders.
Food: There are plenty of places to eat and drink while at North Beach including several fish and chip restaurants.
Toilets: Paid toilets are available by the Marine Hotel.
