Things to do Bwlch Nant yr Arian Visitor Centre review

The Bwlch Nany Yr Arian Visitor Centre is located near Ponterwyd in Ceredigion, Wales. The centre is perched on a dramatic hilltop that straddles the boundary between the lowlands and uplands, it has commanding views of the local area.

The centre is well known for its long-established tradition of the daily feeding of red kites which is certainly quite a sight to behold. There is a range of waymarked trails for walkers, mountain bikers and runners. Along the trails, you can see remnants of the lead mining industry with heather covering the hills. If you want to practice your skills there is a purpose-built track for mountain bikers to practise their technique.

Popular with families is the Barcud trail which includes an animal puzzle trail. You can pick a leaflet up from the visitor centre, the aim is to see how many animals, you can find. This trail also features sculptures and poetry along the path plus it has the best view for the daily kite feeding. The red kites are fed by the lake every day at 2 pm in winter and 3 pm in summer. You can expect to see as many as 150 red kites coming in to feed, with more during the winter months. There is no charge to watch.

There is a long list of all the different trails on offer on their website. The park has two play areas, one for toddlers, and one for older children. The equipment is made of robust timber construction. There are swings, climbing nets, fireman’s pole, a climbing wall and more. You can also pick up a discovery backpack from the visitor centre and discover more of the great outdoors.
