Afan Forest Park

Afan Forest Park

The Afan Forest Park is a 48-square-mile forest park in the Afan Valley in Neath Port Talbot, South Wales. It is a popular place for mountain biking, hiking and hill walking trails. It is the fastest-growing mountain bike area in Britain and is located only minutes from the M4.

There are 6 mountain biking trails that have been carved out of the hillsides once surrounded by coal mining. There are over 100 km of singletrack trails. There’s also the Afan Bike Park that allows riders to improve their riding skill and have hours of winding, swerving fun with berms and jumps. Trails start at either of the two visitor centres. You can enquire at the centres as to which are more suited to your abilities. Bike hire is available on-site. Trout and course fishing is also available (charges apply).

You can enjoy cycling on mile upon mile of a former railway line, these are great for families with picnic and refreshment stops along the trail that covers 36k in total. You can start the trail at either of the two visitor centres of Rhyslyn car park. You don’t have to ride a bike to visit the forest. They also have a number of walks from one-mile leisurely strolls to a ten-mile hike.
