Berkeley Castle
Berkeley Castle is a 12th-century historic fortress in Berkeley, Gloucestershire. It has been designated as a grade 1 listed building. It is described as one of the most remarkable buildings in Britain. There is something for every member of the family.
What is there to do at Berkeley Castle?
The keep is the oldest part of the castle which you can look around today, There are plenty of rooms now open to the public including The King’s gallery, the dining room, picture gallery, great hall and more. In the medieval kitchen, you can see the larders and buttery where everything is set up how it would have looked all those years ago.
There is a butterfly house in the grounds with around 42 exotic specials that fly free, ly in the tropical oasis. It is also home to the world’s largest moth and many special plants. Visitors can come to the Butterfly House as often as they like without visiting the castle (£4.50 adults, £3 children, under 3s free).
The terraced gardens are filled with unusual plants. They have a dragon trail around the gardens. Plus large family-friendly games and there’s a wooden play area for the kids. There are often additional activities which all the family can take part in including archery.
