Bignor Roman Villa

Bignor Roman Villa

Bignor Roman Villa is located in Bignor near Pulborough, Sussex. It is a large Roman courtyard villa which has been excavated and put on public display.

The villa is well known for its high-quality mosaic floors, some of which are the most complete and intricate mosaics in the country. The villa was originally found by George Tupper in 1811 who uncovered the summer dining room water basin after striking it with his plough. The villa is still managed by the Tupper family under the control of some trustees.

There are no records to say who once lied at the villa, judging by the quality of the mosaics it was someone of considerable wealth. Outside the Roman Villa, you can explore the endless footpaths in the surrounding area. In the summer months, there is a maize maze to find your way around.
