Bishops House and Meersbrook Park

Bishops House and Meersbrook Park

Bishop’s House is located within Meersbrook Park in the Norton Lees area of Sheffield, South Yorkshire. It is a half-timbered house that was built around 1500 and it is located on the southern tip of the park. It is one of three surviving timber-framed houses in the city.

It is known as Bishop’s House as it was said to have been built for two brothers who became Bishops. There is, however, no evidence of them ever living there. It has been open as a museum since 1976. It is open at weekends to the public and it is run by volunteers. Two of the rooms are decorated in Jacobean style.

You can spend around half an hour in the house before perhaps heading to the playground in the park. Near the house, you can also enjoy one of the finest views over Sheffield. Also in the park, there is a walled garden and you can enjoy walks around the park. There is also a skateboard area, tennis course and bowling greens.
