Burghley House
Burghley House is located near Stamford in Lincolnshire. Burghley House is a very grand Elizabethan 16th Century house and its gardens are amongst some of the best in the UK with sculptures, a Garden of Surprises and a new adventure play area.
What can you do at Burghley House?
NOW OPEN is a great and relatively new play area at Burghley House. The Woodland Adventure Play area is a fantastic asset to Burghley House. Named Hide and Secrets it is themed around William Cecil, the country’s first Chief Spymaster and it features a series of play zones that lead through the woodland to the Hidden Towers.
You take a path through the woodland where you will find lots of different play areas with things for children up to the age of 12 to enjoy. The highlight is the play towers with two big tube slides, one of them being a pretty daredevil drop slide plus climbing nets, walkways, bridges, tunnels, lookouts, obstacles and more. Plus there is a fun wobbly rope bridge.
The gardens here are really beautiful and there are some oversize games, a small grotto cave and a mirror maze. The sculpture gardens are good fun to explore and there are plenty of wonderful sculptures to be found.
The house is more than worth a visit with 18 rooms to look around. There are some truly magnificent rooms at Burghley including a very impressive Billiard room and some very lavish bedrooms. The old kitchen is fascinating and some of the frescos are worthy of a grand museum. Look out for the paintings/frescos in a room based on heaven and then the contrasting stairway based on hell. The house is closed on Fridays.
