Calypso Cove Waterpark

Calypso Cove Waterpark

Calypso Cove Waterpark is located in the Metrodome Leisure Complex in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. It is one of the biggest waterparks in the UK. It is a great family-friendly attraction, especially as they’ve thought of people of all ages, there is something for everyone, even non-swimmers.

Calypso Cove Waterpark review

The lovely thing about this waterpark is its pirate theming with a huge skull as its centrepiece. Younger children will love Barnacle bay. This is an interactive splash zone for children under the age of 8 and is perfect for little ones with its shallow water plus it’s secure so it’s not easy for little ones to wander off. There’s even a mini-slide to get little ones used to the water.

There is a main swimming pool if you want to swim some lengths plus a smaller pool where there is a wave machine that is activated on a regular basis. Behind the skull, you will find a diving area. You can even watch people under the water here from inside the skull.

There is a pirate ship sunken galleon perfect for slightly older kids, watch out for the tipping bucket and the water cannons. There are a few slides here as well. Next to here is splash ahoy. This has four water slides where you can race your family and friends.

There are also three bigger slides at the waterpark. Kraken will suit younger children as there are no height restrictions but children can not ride with their parents. On Eruption riders must be over 1.2m tall and able to swim 50m as you come out into a mini pool at the bottom, you need to be super brave for this slide. The final slide is Terror Torrent, this is the fastest of the three slides and is one of the UK’s fastest flumes. There are no height restrictions but like the other two slides, children are not permitted to ride with an adult.

If you’re feeling peckish there is a cafe serving fast food which is open evenings, weekends and school holidays. You can access this from the pool. They also provide the food here for birthday parties at the waterpark.
