Carreg Cennen Castle
Carreg Cennen Castle is located in Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire. Wales. It is a historic ruin perched on a limestone crag with a dramatic silhouette that dominates the skyline for miles around.
The castle is located within the Brecon Beacons National Park and has been in a ruinous state since 1462. It is now in the care of Cadw, Wales, although it isn’t free to members. The castle consists of strongly built walls and a towered square court. There are 6 towers and their remains date back to the late 13th and early 14th centuries.
There are two circular walks around the castle and both are marked with signposts. These can be slippy and muddy in places and some are through privately owned farmland. When you visit there may be some farm animals that you can see, although this isn’t guaranteed. There is a natural cave that you can explore. A set of steep steps leads down and into a damp limestone cave. You may need a torch to view the cave.
Please note that the walk from the car park to the castle takes around 10-15 minutes and is accessible to pushchairs. Access is up a fairly steep grass bank so accessibility for the disabled or the less mobile is a challenge. There are also several steps into the inner ward of the castle.
