Carsington Water

Carsington Water is a large reservoir operated by Severn Trent Water located between Wirksworth and Kniveton in Derbyshire. As well as watersports there is a play area, walks around the lake, fishing and a visitor centre.

Things to do at Carsington Water

There is a 3-mile cycle route which is perfect for little legs, plus an 8-mile route for those that can manage it. Bike hire is available from Carsington sports and Leisure. You can learn more about the birds that visit the lake in their wildlife centre. There are also three walking routes around the lake, these are a great way to take in the beauty of the lake.

Carsington water is a popular place for fishing with both brown and rainbow trout, you can even hire a boat. There is a range of watersports available on the lake including windsurfing. kayaking, rowing and canoeing. You can book in for lessons or hire their equipment. Kids will love the outdoor play area.

Make sure you see the amazing Kugel stone. The granite stone weighs one tin and revolves on a thin film of water which is pumped into the granite socket it sits on.
