Chartwell is a National Trust property in Chartwell, Kent. For over forty years it was the home of Winston Churchill with the origins of the estate dating back to the late 14th Century. In 1946 Chartwell was sold to the National Trust although they remained living there until shortly before his death in 1965.

The gardens at Chartwell are varied and due to the creative minds of both Winston and his wife they are beautiful all year round. There are a number of gardens to explore and you can enjoy some far-reaching views. You can enjoy a number of walking trails at Chartwell and a few of these are listed on the National Trust website.

There are a number of wild play areas around the 80 acres of gardens. During the second world war bombs allegedly fell on the estate at Chartwell. The crater left behind is great fun for families to play in. Plus there is a Canadian Camp to play in. Other things to find include balance beams. swings, door mouse dens, seesaws and a wooden play structure. Plus there are lots of different chickens to spot in the walled gardens.

You can explore the house at Chartwell and walk around the rooms where Churchill and his family once lived. Much of the house remains as if they were still living there. There are personal pictures, books and mementoes offering intriguing behind the scenes insights into his life.
