Chelmsford Museum is located in Oaklands Park in Chelmsford, Essex. It is situated in Oaklands House which is a Grade II listed building and also houses the Essex Regiment Museum.
Museum Overview
In the museum, you can explore more about Chelmsford’s history from the Ice Age right through to the present day. You can see a mammoth, watch a princely Anglo-Saxon burial and see art by a Turner Prize Winner. Displays include Roman items, Tudors, Georgians, Victorians and more. Plus items from the natural world. You can pick up resources to help your children explore the museum and park. They are free to visit and all items must be returned at the end of your visit.
The Essex Regiment Museum tells the story of the county infantry regiment. Artefacts on display include weaponry, medals and uniforms plus other items. The park is 12 acres in size and has two play areas. There are sports pitches, tennis courts and a rose garden. First opened in 1930 the park has won awards and boasts both Green Flag and Green Heritage status.
