Corfe Castle National Trust

Corfe Castle National Trust

Corfe Castle is one of a handful of castles owned by the National Trust located in Wareham, Dorset. The dramatic ruins of the castle stand on a natural hill which you can see for miles around.

The first castle would have been built of wood. It was rebuilt in stone by William the Conqueror and used for the next 600 years as a royal fortress. Sadly the castle was ordered to be destroyed after the English Civil War but you can still see its ruins today. With fallen fortress walls and secret places to discover kids will love exploring.

The castle hosts yearly events, including family fun days and battle re-enactments. Make sure you ask for a family guide as this will provide you with a kid’s quiz and trail. There is a wildlife walk around the grounds and they often have extra school holiday activities.
