Fraisthorpe Beach, Near Bridlington

Fraisthorpe Beach, Near Bridlington

Fraisthorpe Beach can be found on the East Yorkshire coast near Bridlington. It is approximately a 10-minute drive south of Bridlington. It’s signposted with a brown sign off the Hull Road, the A165. You then follow a bendy single-track road down to the beach. This road isn’t for the faint-hearted but don’t let it put you off – just be prepared.

What is there to do at Fraisthorpe Beach?

The car park at Fraisthorpe is charged. All-day parking is £5 or you can pay £1 for 1 hour or £3 for 3 hours. The cafe and toilets are a short walk from the car park, away from the beach. The Cow Shed Cafe is in a lovely modern building.

There is direct access from the car park onto the beach. The closer you park to the entrance of the car park the easier the access to the beach. The car park goes on and on if you park too far down the edge becomes too steep to walk down. The car park sits on a soft cliff-type edge of varying heights, birds even nest in parts of it.

You can even see Bridlington from the beach and you can walk there if you wish although it could take an hour or so. The beach is very popular with horse riders and we saw at least 7 while we were there.

There is no lifeguard service at this beach. The sea is very shallow for a good way out. There were many pillbox structures lining this section of land during the two World Wars. The coastline has eroded a lot since the 1940s and over 100m of that land has disappeared. Because of this these structures now sit on the beach. Most are broken and look more like giant rocks.

If you are looking for a quiet beach with not much to do then this could be for you although unless you’re prepared to walk further south it isn’t especially quiet right now. It is cheaper than parking at South Beach in Bridlington for the day.
