Gem Rock Museum

Gem Rock Museum

Museum Overview

The Gem Rock Museum is located in Creetown, Dumfries and Galloway. It is a small but interesting museum with lots of stones, crystals and fossils to look at.

Inside the museum, the collection contains many fine and rare examples of crystals found in Britain. They are displayed alongside some unusual items such as a 4.5 billion-year-old meteorite, a fossilised egg and the dung of a dinosaur. There is also one of the largest gold nuggets on display in the UK.

In their unique Crystal Cave, you can see crystals and minerals displayed in a realistic cave setting. This includes a fluorescent display where ordinary-looking rock specimens take on a colourful glow. There is also an audio-visual presentation.
