Halton Miniature Railway
The Halton Miniature railway is located in Palacefields near Runcorn, Cheshire. It runs through a small part of the town’s park and the 10-minute journey is a delight for all ages.
First opened in 1979 the railway is run entirely by volunteers. The track is 7 1/4″ gauge and is almost a mile in length. There is actually no charge to ride the train but donations are welcome. Their trains are usually petrol hauled although they sometimes run steam and electric locomotives.
If you want to extend your visit you can spend some time in the park. This has a free children’s play area with picnic tables and refreshments are available from the Ski Centre next to the main station.
