Things to do at Lincolnshire Wolds Railway review
The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway is the only place in Lincolnshire where you can ride on a full-size steam train. They are registered as a charity and are currently trying to extend the line further. It’s one of those kinds of days out where you find yourselves discussing a return visit because you had such a lovely day out. It’s very nostalgic.
You will need to check their website before leaving home as they do not have many open days during the year. There is a wooden train for kids to play on next to the car park which is great fun for a bit of role-playing.
There isn’t a lot to do other than see the platform and ride on the train but it is utterly charming and once you have your ticket for the day you can ride on the train as many times as you want. I can recommend doing a return journey just before lunch, eating in their cafe and then going on another return journey after lunch. Otherwise, you won’t spend long on your visit there.
The train journey is currently approx. 15 minutes either way with an approx. 10 minutes rest at North Thoresby. The train leaves from Ludborough and on open days it usually runs every hour. They also have special event days which are worth checking out.
Please note – Most places may still require you to pre-book online in advance. Some venues also still have certain areas closed for safety reasons. Please check their website and/or social media pages before visiting.
