North Landing Flamborough Boat Trips
If you’re visiting the stunning Yorkshire coast at North Landing in Flamborough, one of the best ways to experience the headland is from the water. From spring through to early autumn, local operators run boat trips straight from North Landing beach, giving you a fresh perspective on this dramatic stretch of coastline. The trips are typically aboard a traditional Yorkshire fishing coble, a small, sturdy boat that can get you close to sea caves and cliff faces that are otherwise hard to see from land.
The most popular option is a 30-minute cruise to the Smuggler’s Cave and Bird Sanctuary, where you’ll drift along the chalk cliffs and have the chance to spot seabirds nesting on their ledges and sometimes seals or even puffins in the water nearby. We enjoyed a lovely trip around the headland on one of their trips. For those who enjoy fishing, there are also longer fishing trips available where rods and bait are supplied and you can try your hand at catching mackerel, codling or wrasse off the headland.
Trips usually run daily during the summer months, weather permitting, and no advance booking is needed for the shorter boat tours (though it’s wise to check conditions on the day). I planned our boat trip at the last minute. We headed down there when the tide was in, the sun was out and when the trips were definitely running. You can check their Facebook page in the website link on this page for up-to-date sailings. It’s a relaxed, family-friendly way to explore North Yorkshire’s rugged coast from a different angle and add some seaside adventure to your visit.
To get down to North Landing beach, you have to go down (and back up again) a very steep hill. More about that by clicking here.
