Things to do at Peak Rail review
Peak Rail is a heritage steam and diesel service for tourists and visitors to the Peak District and the Derbyshire Dales in Matlock, Derbyshire. The track length is around 6 kilometres with three stations.
The railway provides a nostalgic journey back to a bygone age through their diesel and steam locomotives. The line currently operates between Rowsley south station and Matlock Platform 2. As well as their normal train journeys they also host a number of special seasonal events plus luxury dining is available in their Palatine restaurant car.
From Rowsley south station there are lovely riverside walks enabling passengers to visit Rowsley village itself and the historic Caudwell’s Mill. Cyclists can make use of the newly established cycle track which runs alongside the railway line from Rowsley to Matlock. Also at Rowsley, you will find toilet facilities, the Northwood buffet, gift shop and picnic area.
Darley Dale station is the intermediate station on the line. Car parking, toilet, waiting room and picnic area facilities are available. There is also a small museum. Matlock Platform 2 has public toilets adjacent to the bus station with a small charge, you can also explore the town of Matlock. The station has a gift shop and tourist information centre.
